Inc. Magazine-SuccessStory

It's a little innappropriate to bring up the TV series The Office when getting a tour of the Jack Millers company headquarters. You know Jack's company, Successories for the motivational posters that dot the set of that show. Actually none of those prints are Jacks, but instead cheap immitations. This however may bode well for Sucessories which is reinventing itself with a $400K website rehab and looking for a younger audience. Maybe irony can inspire productivity, so Jack, think casual Friday T-shirts!

Best of, Pork?

A favorite image of mine of dazed and reflective farm girl and her prize-winning porker rests on the cover of the current  Oxford American Magazine.  Their third annual Best of the South issue includes an insiders guide to prison food and odes to the best of vandalism and daiquiris.  Oxford American Magazine is a not-for-profit literary and culture journal of the University of Central Arkansas. Little do those genteel southerners know, that pig lives in Chicago. Oink!

Summer Slam!

I recently did a particularly physical shoot for Chicago Magazine's photo editor, Todd Urban. Todd asked me to photograph wrestling's  World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk. I shot Punk sunning his pecs at the beach, and for some girl power, invited Playboy Magazine model, Danielle Fornarelli to join in.  Check out the August issue of Chicago Magazine (available July 15) to see who wins the girl and who gets sand in the face. Special thanks to stylist Angela Finney and Lilly the Chihuahua.

Don't mind the producer

A recent picture I made for Shout laundry spray is currently runnng in national publications. I collaborated with Draft-FCB art director, Charbel Nasser and writer, Mike Mulcahy on the companion piece of a TV spot they did.  The ads show  frustrating ways people throw-out their perfectly good washing machines with the headline, "It's not your washer".  Seen here is my producer Annika Howe at the end of the shoot, messing with the props and the neighbors alike. See the actual ad on my tearsheet page.

Can't steer me wrong

Dogs are great and I own a couple of cats, but the next big fish in pet ownership is Hereford; That's Hereford cow.  I had a great week working with Manny Bautista, Jonas Amoss and Renee Kutner of Atlanta's Fitzgerald and Company on a new ad for Cryovac. Cryovac is a leading international food packaging company based in South Carolina. Here you see me and Dylan chumming it up after his big shoot.  Dylan lives two hours south of Chicago and loves to lay in his stall, eat his cud and urinate on set.

Exit, Stage Left

After three luxurious years of full-time employment as my trusty studio manager, Lindsey Hedge has joined the ranks of the financially unsure and has gone freelance!  On the occasion of her last day, I threw her a major keg party at the studio.   We had some fine dancing, awkward strangeness and multiple costume changes by our guests.  And to be sure, the keg was killed! Thanks to DJ LA* Jesus for rockin' the joint silly.

Please welcome my new studio manager, Stephanie Foyer into the co-pilot's seat.

Cover of AtEdge

I was honored that Serbin Communications, publisher of the new and very cool photography source book AtEdge, asked to use my photograph on the cover and verso of their book.  More of my work appears inside on pages 34-35. AtEdge Microview 19 is distributed to advertising agencies and design firms nationwide April 2008.

Nighthawks spoofed, again and again

Almost better known than the  Edward Hopper masterpiece which it spoofs,  a small print of Gottfried Helnwein's painting, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, 1987 hangs quietly in the corner of Johnny’s Grill in Chicago. Helnwein replaced the three iconic diner patrons and soda jerk with: Humphrey Bogart, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and Elvis Presley.   Energy BBDO art director, Steve Denekas and I chose Johnny's as the location to create our own spoof of Hopper's, Nighthawks at the Diner, 1942 for it's striking resemblance to Helnwein's, or rather Hopper's famous painting.  The image was used to promote the Art Institute of Chicago's Hopper exhibit.

Reality Photography!

I was asked to appear on the BET reality show, College Hill Interns to help the "Blue Team" beat the "Red Team" in their final challenge of the series. The challege was to concept, and produce a Toyota print ad in 5 days. The winning team's ad would run in Complex Magazine. Team members produced nearly everything from casting, location scouting, styling, to the craft service. I offered a little guidance and showed up with my crew to shoot. Tune-in to the eighth episode on BET online  to see who wins. OK. Spoiler. The "Blue Team" wins! This ad ran and I am now accepting scripts.

FURminate me!

Upstart, a new publication launching soon by the publishers of Fast Company and Inc. magazines, flew Saverio to St. Louis to make pictures about an amazing animal grooming device,The FURminator! The FURminator is a tool that combs out the fluffy, allergen ridden undercoat leaving the glossy topcoat of your cat, dog or horse unharmed. With that harvested fur, you can now weave a stylish coat for your Golden Retriever to sport for each new hunting season.

Whaaaaa!

A recent issue of Chicago Magazine features an image of Saverio’s as it’s Arena section opener. The shoot took place on the downtown streets of Chicago and had him casting a choral group to pose as a church choir singing the laments of public transportation. The story is about a "complaint choir" performing at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art.
